Getting Started

This page takes you from a sealed box to your first tracked shot.

Before you start

In the box

  • Element Launch Monitor
  • Power supply
  • Alignment tool
  • Club stickers
  • Quick start card

You'll also need

  • A phone, tablet, or computer with a web browser.
  • An ethernet cable and a free port on your router or switch — only if you plan to connect the Element over Ethernet in Step 2.

The dashboard

Everything in this guide happens in the Element dashboard — the web app the unit serves at http://sgt.local. You'll open it for the first time in Step 2.

Step 1 — Power on

  1. Plug the supplied power supply into the back of the unit.
  2. Flip the switch to the ON position.
  3. Wait about 15 seconds. When the LEDs on the front of the unit light up, the Element is ready to use.

Use only the supplied power supply

Only the power supply packaged with the device will work. Do not attempt to use a third-party power supply.

Step 2 — Connect to the Element

There are two ways to get the Element onto your network. Pick one — you don't need both. For more detail, see the full guide to connecting.

Option A — Ethernet

Choose this if your hitting area is near a router or switch.

  1. Run an ethernet cable from the Element to your router or switch.
  2. Open http://sgt.local in a browser on a device connected to the same network.

The cable must go to a router or switch

Plugging the Element directly into your computer will not work.

Option B — Access point

Choose this if there's no wired connection nearby. The Element broadcasts its own Wi-Fi network until you join it to yours.

  1. On your phone, tablet, or computer, join the Element's network. Either scan the QR code on the Quick start card, or connect to sgt-ap using the password sgtsetup1.
  2. Open http://sgt.local.
  3. Go to Settings and select your Wi-Fi network.
  4. The Element joins your Wi-Fi and shuts off its access point. Reconnect your device to your normal Wi-Fi, then reopen http://sgt.local.

From now on the Element rejoins your network automatically whenever it powers on.

Step 3 — Position the unit

The Element sits on the ground beside the ball, level with your hitting surface. For mounting options and full measurements, see the full setup guide.

  1. Place the unit to the side of your hitting area, approximately 40cm/15in from the ball.
  2. Keep the unit level with your hitting surface. If it sits below the ball, it may have trouble detecting it. Flashing orange lights mean the unit is not level.
  3. Place a ball in the hitting area and watch the LEDs. A blue light sweeping back and forth means the unit is still searching — move it until the lights turn solid green, which means the ball is found and the unit is ready for your shot.

You can confirm the same thing on the dashboard, which shows the current status of the unit. For every LED state, see Status Lights.

Step 4 — Hit your first shot

  1. With the lights solid green, take your stance as normal.
  2. Hit the shot.
  3. The shot appears on the dashboard within a moment of impact, and the unit returns to searching — sweeping blue — ready for the next ball.

That's a working setup. If the shot doesn't register at all, or the lights never reach solid green, see Troubleshooting.
